The Smartbird is the first flying robot at all able to emulate the bird flight. Designed like a seagull the Festo Smartbird can start, fly and land autonomously. The unique construction of its wings, which not only beat up and down, but tilt at specific angles allows for spectacular and natural-acting flight maneuvers. The wings are powered by an 'active-articulated-torsion-drive', controlled by a complex electronic system and multiple sensors. We received the order for this development from Festo to demonstrate unprecedented energy efficiency in aviation at their trade shows and events.
